War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, debuted to negative reviews on Thursday. It appears that the movie’s box office performance has also been impacted by the negative buzz surrounding its release. The movie grossed Rs 52.5 crore on its first day of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. While that amount is nearly as impressive as Pathaan, there is still cause for concern. The Hindi portion of the Rs 52.5 crore is only Rs 29 crore, while the Telugu portion is Rs 23.25 crore. In contrast, Saiyaara, which starred two debutants, earned Rs 21.5 crore on its first day of release. Since War 2 is the first movie starring Jr NTR in a Bollywood production, it was anticipated that it would do well in the Telugu states. However, given that it is a part of a huge Bollywood franchise and features Hrithik, its Rs 29 crore opening seems a little underwhelming. On its first day, the Hindi version of the first War movie brought in Rs 51 crore.
In the Mumbai and Delhi-NCR regions, War 2 had approximately 1100 and 1400 shows, respectively, with occupancy rates of about 22% and 31%. The movie had about 500 Telugu shows in Hyderabad, with an occupancy rate of about 77 percent. Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which earned almost Rs 65 crore on its first day of release, has faced off against War 2. With debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda just having a huge hit, YRF is really concerned about War 2’s opening numbers. In just four weeks, their film Saiyaara earned over Rs 322 crore net in India. Therefore, read the full analysis and reviews of War 2 by The Firstbarker.

Tiger Shroff costarred in Siddharth Anand’s first War, which earned Rs 53 crore on its first day of release, of which Rs 51 crore came from the Hindi version alone. Salman Khan starred in the previous Spy Universe movie, Tiger 3, which debuted at Rs 44.5 crore on the Sunday of Diwali. One of the biggest hits of 2023, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, debuted at Rs 57 crore, with the Hindi share coming in at Rs 55 crore.
War 2 hopes to make up for its unfavourable reviews and public responses thus far by taking advantage of an extended holiday weekend. Thugs of Hindostan was the last YRF movie to have a strong opening but a disastrous second day. On its first day, the Aamir Khan film earned Rs 52.25 crore, of which Rs 50 crore came from Hindi. However, on its second day, it had a 44 percent decline in revenue. At the conclusion of its theatrical run, the film earned Rs 151.3 crore at the Indian box office.
War 2 also features Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana. Ayan Mukerji, who previously helmed the hugely expensive failure Brahmastra, which starred Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, is the film’s director. Alpha, the upcoming Spy Universe movie, will star Alia next.
