The lights of Macau may dazzle, but on court, it was the Indian duo who stole the spotlight. With quiet confidence and fiery precision, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stepped onto the court—not just to win a match, but to send a message.
It took them only 36 minutes to dismantle the Malaysian pair, clinching a straight-game victory and cruising into the second round of the Macau Open Super 300.
The Macau Open Super 300, held at the Macau East Asian Games Dome, is part of the prestigious BWF World Tour and ranks among the important Super 300-level tournaments. With crucial ranking points and strong international participation, it often serves as a testing ground for elite and rising shuttlers aiming for higher-level titles and global recognition.
For Indian players, the tournament offers both competitive exposure and a chance to sharpen form ahead of major events like the World Championships and Olympics.
The 2025 Macau Open campaign kicked off with high expectations for India, especially in the men’s doubles category. In their first-round match, India’s top-seeded pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were drawn against the Malaysian duo Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong.
With both sides looking to make a strong start, the match promised an intense face-off, but it was the Indian pair who completely dictated the tempo from start to finish.
Satwik and Chirag opened the game with fierce energy, quickly gaining a 6–1 lead, thanks to their aggressive smashes and tight net control. Though the Malaysian pair tried to narrow the gap at 10–9, the Indians didn’t allow any momentum shift. They maintained control and took the first game 21–13. In the second game, a brief lead from the Malaysians at 14–13 was quickly overturned by a four-point burst from the Indian team.
Staying calm under pressure, they wrapped up the match in just 36 minutes with a 21–15 win, advancing confidently into the second round. This win marks a solid start for Satwik and Chirag, who are aiming for their first title of the season. After re-entering the BWF top 10, the duo is looking to build momentum ahead of bigger tournaments like the World Championships.
With a confident opening win and a favourable draw ahead, Satwik and Chirag have set the tone for what could be a defining campaign at the Macau Open.
As they step into the next round, all eyes will be on the Indian duo to carry this momentum forward and turn consistent performances into a much-deserved title run.
